Fake Times – BOLDtext @ The REP

Your news is fake. Mine is REAL. Your truth, your reality, your version of the world is wrong. Because mine is RIGHT. Isn’t it…?

BOLDtext return for another season of Open Door at the Birmingham Rep with Fake Times –four short plays that ponder how to get real and counter today’s culture of lies.

The Offer by Liz John – Chris desperately needs a new start, but is this an offer he can accept?

Inspired by Nicola Jones – A fan breaks into a famous novelists house. Or do they? When fiction becomes fact.

Don’t Burst My Bubble by Tim Stimpson – Luke writes fake news. Karen devours it. But can their relationship ever be more than a fantasy?

Back to Reality by Julia Wright – Kate has spent the last year on a desert island taking part in a reality TV show. Now she’s coming back to reality.

Come and join our theatrical deliberations at 8pm on Tuesday 19th September in The DOOR when we will try to sort fact from fiction.

Post World War 3

Now the hard work begins!  Following a wonderful showcase, with excellent and thoughtful direction by Caroline Frewin and fab performances from Lily Eliza, Oli Leonard, Phoebe Cresswell and Dru Stephenson – all of whom also generously fed back to me during several workshops – I’ve been developing the play further.  Thanks to everyone who attended the showcase, particularly the students from BOA who also gave me invaluable feedback from a young audience point of view.

I’m really excited about the piece, and I’ll keep you posted on its progress. Watch this space!  Read our showcase blog at https://boldtextcollective.wordpress.com/ww3-jalleh-oli2

World War 3 – 22 May 2017 – free at The Rep

On Monday 22nd May 2017 at 8pm, BOLDtext Playwrights present another in their Doubled Up series, showcasing extracts of major new work from myself and Julia Wright at Birmingham Rep.  After that, you can catch up with my work by tuning into BBC Radio 4’s The Archers.

A5 Front DOUBLED UP 0417 Ultimate Zoe is fighting for the planet.  James yearns for a career.  Kat needs her sister to be ok.   Ella just wants it all.   But no-one is listening – so now it’s time to make a stand.  Can the fiery enthusiasm of youth overcome the cynical politics of today’s Britain?   A challenging, acerbic tale of conflicting ambition in the 21st Century.

Liz’s work ‘shone out as a masterpiece of compression’ – LichfieldLive  (about ‘Perversion of Science’)

Come along and catch extracts of these two plays-in-progress at 8pm on Monday 22nd May as part of The REP’s Open Door season.  Tickets are FREE to book but it’s best to reserve in advance.  We ask you to pay-what-you-can on the night (we’ll rattle a bucket on the way out).
